This free conference would provide an in-depth look at the ways in which sexual assault impacts a teenager’s life, along with educational and prevention resources that are important for every teen to know, as well as service providers of teens. This conference will consist of four workshops and a keynote speaker We are honored to be able to say that Ben Atherton- Zeman will be the keynote speaker for this conference, giving a multi media presentation of his one man act, “Voices of Men”, dealing with Sexual Assault and Dating Violence. You can find out more about Ben by accessing his website at www.voicesofmen.org.

Along with “Voices of Men”, Ben Atherton Zeman will be offering two additional workshops at the conference. One is “Involving Boys and Men in Anti-Violence Leadership”, which introduces audience members to a five-step process for involving males in taking leadership in anti-violence activities.

The second is called “Jen and Steve”— is an interactive, educational presentation that educates audiences about teen sexual assault and dating violence (which can often be interlinked). By utilizing audience participation, myths about Sexual Assault/ Dating Violence are separated from facts.

The third will be an overview of Sexual Assault—what it is, tactics perpetrators use, the thinking/feeling process following a sexual assault, what it means to report and barriers teens face. Also a piece on setting Healthy Boundaries and limits for yourself and others, which we believe is an integral piece in helping keep yourself safe. As no one can actually prevent a sexual assault from happening to them, there are things that one can do to send the message that you are not their next victim.

Finally, a workshop called Oppression and Rape Culture which examines that culture we live in and the images and ideas that we are fed through many different mediums every day that promotes the idea that Sexual Violence is acceptable and even expected.

Our hope is that everyone leaves the conference with a comprehensive understanding of the ways in which sexual violence permeates our culture and the way in which it affects our society as a whole so that you can recognize it, educate others on it and work toward preventing it.

The conference will be open to teens age 13 and up and anyone else in the community that would benefit from this information. Parents, social workers, teachers, college professors, students and anyone who works in the social service arena or anyone who would like to be more aware of the ways that Sexual Assault impacts a teens life.
