National Youth Development
World Youth Report (United Nations)- This report, an official report to the General Assembly, called for a renewed commitment to the goals of the World Programme of Action, since over 200 million youth were living in poverty, 130 million youth were illiterate, 88 million were unemployed and 10 million young people were living with HIV/AIDS. In the World Youth Report 2005, it is argued that too often, youth policy is driven by negative stereotypes of young people, including delinquency, drug abuse and violence. What seems to be forgotten is that young people are a positive force for development, peace, and democracy.
Youth Report to America- To compile the Youth Report To America, which was funded by American Express, Boys & Girls Club members helped determine questions, administered open-ended surveys to other youth in their local communities and compiled the responses into key themes. Some 46,000 youth participated. Respondents came from varied racial and ethnic backgrounds, representing each region of the country. Club members reviewed and tabulated the data to make this the biggest report of its kind – ever – conducted of youth, by youth.
National Youth Development Information Center- National Youth Development Information Center-- www.nydic.org -- is a one-stop website for youth workers with interest in any and all of the following areas: funding, programming, research, policy, job and training opportunities. NYDIC also provides current news to the youth development field and has one of the largest online libraries, providing practice-related information at low-cost or no cost. NYDIC provides constant opportunities for practitioners to share knowledge and experience, enabling them to build the best practice in the field of youth development.
All Ages Movement Project- The All-ages Movement Project (AMP) is aiming to find and better understand youth-run cultural organizations focused on music in the United States. For four months, AMP has been exploring these organizations’ social and political significance and the idea of enhancing their impact through a national network. AMP has designed a database that now houses the names of over 300 organizations that embody a combination of the following things: youth empowerment component, popular music focus, participatory structure, and produce music related cultural products.
