Teen Center Without Walls
(TCW2)- Teen Center Without Walls is a project associated
with Washtenaw County’s Washtenaw Area Teens for Tomorrow (WATT) and was
created by students from a number of different county high schools to offer
safe youth driven activities for peers throughout southeastern Washtenaw
County. Since the area doesn’t have a teen center, these monthly
activities are designed to give local youth safe, teen-driven events and
places to have fun and interact with youth from other communities.
Ozone House- Ozone House is a crisis, support and housing agency for
youth and families in crisis or conflict, for youth who have runaway or
become homeless, and those in unstable or unsafe situations. They offer an
array of free services from emergency shelter, to family counseling, life
skills development, to longer term housing support and
enrichment/recreational activities. These services help find safety and
stability, and develop the skills and confidence needed to make a safe and
healthy transition to adulthood.
Community Youth Mapping (CYM)- Community Youth Mapping is a catalyst to
mobilize youth and adults as they identify resources and opportunities that
exist in their community. Through the CYM process, young people and adults
canvass their neighborhoods in search of places to go and things to do.
Using this data collection strategy, young people across the nation have
identified a host of resources that may not be found in traditional
directories. By the end of the summer Ypsilanti will be part of the
over 100 sites that have been mapped so far.
Michigan Works- The Michigan Works Business Service Team provides recruitment
services at no cost, including online job advertisements, resume searches,
applicant screening, and referrals to other hiring resources in the
community. They operate with the help of state and federal funds and
are governed by board members, the majority of whom are local business
leaders who represent major industries in our area. They can be used
to find jobs for youth in the area.
The Corner Health Center- The Corner Health Center works to help young
people make healthy choices which improve their lives now and in the future
by offering a broad range of medical care, health education and support
services to low-income, young people ages behaviors, encourage them to
develop responsible behaviors, and take responsibility for their own health.
Doctors, nurses, social workers, nutritionists and other staff all have
important roles in meeting the needs of the young people who seek their
services.
My Reality Check- This website is full of information to help the
youth in Washtenaw and Livingston counties get the real facts on
how to stay alcohol, tobacco and drug free. This website is intended for
registered students in 6th, 7th or 8th grade but any student or adult can
access it.
Michigan MEAP Results- The results are in for the class of 2006's MEAP results. Michigan scores decreased in all but one of the five assessments but even with that test 63% of the students still failed. This is leading to a stricter state graduation requirement. This PDF file shows the results of the MEAP scores over the past four years.
Ypsilanti Youth Empowered to Act- Ypsilanti Youth Empowered to Act (YYEA) is a dynamic new project designed to engage the energy and vision of young people to create community change in Ypsilanti. YYEA will do this by creating a youth board consisting of 20-25 Ypsilanti youth, who will work in partnership with adult allies to: identify issues affecting youth in the Ypsilanti community, promote civic action and engagement to address those issues, and award and administer mini-grants to youth-driven initiatives.
